The Rabbi of Bacherach and Other Stories
Heinrich Heine (1797-1856) was a German poet journalist, essayist, and literary critic. Max Liebermann (1847-1935) was one of the most prominent European artists of his time. He designed this cycle of drawings for the 1923 bibliophile edition of The Rabbi of Bacherach. It is considered an outstanding example of book illustration. Elizabeth Petuchowski is the co-author of Ministers of Compassion During the Nazi Period: Gertrud Luckner and Raoul Wallenberg. |
